Steve Prefontaine was an outstanding long distance runner.

He once held the American record in seven distance track events from 2,000-10,000 meters.

Prefontaine was from the State of Oregon and attended the University of Oregon where he won the NCAA Men's Cross Country Championship..

Prefontaine won 120 of 153 races and never lost a race at the University of Oregon.

Prefontaine was on the cover of Sports Illustrated at age 19.

Prefontaine tragically died in a car accident at age 24, in 1975.
